Windows Mobile 7 Demo to Appear Next Month

Numerous sources are now claiming that Microsoft's long overdue version of its mobile operating system will be ready to demonstrate at next month's Mobile World Congress 2010 event in Barcelona.

Microsoft's focus on its more traditional products in recent years has diverted its resources from their mobile venture, and there's no doubt that it has cost them significant market share. There's no question that the mobile market is evolving at a dizzying rate, and it just takes a short stint of complacency doesn't take long to for a competitor to find itself left in the dust. Research In Motion (Blackberry), Google (Android), and Apple have been innovating like crazy, and many consumers have been long-awaiting Microsoft's next move.

After a small tide-over with the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 late last year, it appears that we will soon get some insight into exactly what that "next move" is. CNET reports that Microsoft plans to have their code finalized within the next six months so that they'll be ready to ship on array of new phones by the end of 2010.

Among the expected lineup of new business devices, a Microsoft-branded consumer phone line is rumored to be in the works. This could end up being the actual version of the "Zune Phone" that has been talked about for some time.

We'll keep you updated as more news becomes available.
